Tour Grey Rock Mansion
Grey Rock Mansion offers a traditional and elegant setting for contemporary affairs. We welcome you to bring your party to us in Pikesville, MD. From this stately home, we can help to create the effect you are looking for with style and grace. Grey Rock Mansion can receive up to 200 guests for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, a formal served dinner, dancing and dessert. We can host up to 250 guests for a cocktail style reception. We have four spacious rooms for entertaining, each with its own style and grandeur. By using the appropriate combination of rooms, we are able to host groups from 50 guests to 250 guests, in a setting that is both comfortable and intimate.
Your guests will arrive at Grey Rock Mansion via our circular driveway. Upon parking in the adjacent lot, they will walk up to the grand portico with its white pillars and beautiful brick work. As they enter the foyer, an elegant chandelier an open view of the surrounding rooms welcomes them. An antique marble table will present the place cards, affording guests the opportunity during the cocktail hour to find their card. The grandeur of the space can be felt from this first moment.
The Terrace Room
The Terrace Room is a reproduction of Wrighton Hall in England. It features a marble framed fireplace and lots of windows that create an airy, light filled feeling. The wide ledged windows overlooking the grand ballroom offer a view of the Grand Ballroom below, and others look out on the front lawns and the side gardens. A bay window is set back in the alcove, creating the perfect showcase for your wedding cake and allowing guests to see up close the carefully selected details of your cake. We also offer hors d'oeuvres to your guests here as part of your cocktail hour.
The library’s most stunning and defining characteristic must be the red-stained walnut used throughout the room. From the paneling and recessed shelves to the ornately carved, floor to ceiling fireplace, the room exudes a warm and homey feeling. It makes the perfect home for the bar, opening with the guests arrival and continuing throughout the party.
The Dining Room
A European influence is reflected in the intricate wood work, from the elaborate crown molding to the ornate borders framing the fireplace. Polished pewter chandeliers and plush carpeting add classic warmth to the room. A large bay window graces one wall and creates the perfect setting for a dinner or luncheon buffet. The Dinning Room often plays host to coffee and dessert stations later in the party.
The Grand Ballroom
The Grand Ballroom entices guests down the staircase and onto its gleaming hardwood floors. Here they dine or dance under period reproduction brass chandeliers descending from the 25-foot ceilings. The large windows, accented with rich draperies, look out onto the patio and provide a sense of continuity between the two spaces. Music drifts out to the patio from the ballroom and guests easily flow in and out during the event. The Grand Ballroom is the perfect setting for an intimate dinner party, but is also used as an extension of hors d’oeuvres and bar for larger groups, and is the ideal place for dancing away the evening. An additional bar can also be set up in this room, for greater convenience to your guests as they continue to celebrate in the ballroom. Casual seating and cocktail tables skirt the room, allowing for a dance floor big enough to accommodate all of your guests at once.
The Tented Patio and Gardens
For larger parties, or those preferring an outdoor setting, guests can be seated on our the antique flagstone patio. Covered with a beautiful white, silk lined tent, the patio can be utilized regardless of the season, and can be climate controlled to ensure your guests comfort. Delicate white lights line the ceiling of the tent, along with globe chandeliers, so that you can have ample but soft lighting. The tent accommodates up to 200 guests for a served dinner, and can host a comparable amount for a ceremony should the weather be inclement.
When the weather is agreeable, many couples choose to use our beautiful gazebo for their wedding ceremony. Built in a classic Victorian style, the gazebo provides a beautiful backdrop for the ceremony and is ideal for pictures. A slate and brick pathway provides a lovely aisle for the bridal procession and guides the way to the ceremony. Guests are seated on either side in traditional white garden chairs to witness the wedding. The garden bench and fountain also provide a myriad of picture opportunities.
The Bridal Suite
For couples who opt to host their ceremony with us, we extend use of our second floor Bridal Suite. Tucked away in a quiet corner of the mansion, and complete with antique furniture, including a fainting couch, it is the perfect backdrop for getting ready and pictures before the ceremony. Floor to ceiling mirrors allow brides to see every angle of themselves in their dresses on their special day. A private restroom also affords the bride and her maids the privacy needed to keep them a surprise until the last moment. It is also a welcome retreat for brides and grooms to have a private moment following the ceremony.
